Individual Counselling

It can be difficult to find balance and meaning within your personal and/or professional life. Stress can cause us to feel as though we have no control over our emotions, which can impact our day-to-day living and relationships. You may be experiencing low energy, sleep interruption, irritability, worry, mood swings, and an overall decline in your health.

Some things that you may want to address in counselling are:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Managing bipolar disorder

  • Self-esteem issues

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Trauma

  • Life transitions

  • Stress management

  • Transition to parenthood

These difficulties you are facing may be standing in your way of reaching your full potential. We can work together to help overcome some of these challenges by fostering healthy patterns and coping mechanisms.

Youth Counselling

Depression, anxiety, major life changes, and/or trauma are just some of the difficulties teens face on a daily basis. Your teen may feel exhausted, hopeless or stuck in shame for their thoughts and behaviours.

My goal is to help teens develop a better sense of self in order to manage life stressors, as well as create a toolkit to better cope with life transitions. By carrying these skills into adulthood, teens are set up to maintain positive and healthy relationships as well as manage difficult life experiences.

Perinatal Mental Health

The prenatal and postpartum periods can be tremendously challenging. Whether you are experiencing prenatal depression, postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety or somewhere in between - you are not alone.

We often use a critical lens when reflecting on our experiences and abilities as mothers. Silence about these common challenges in motherhood can keep us stuck in shame. Exploring the chaos that is pregnancy and motherhood can bring forth the perspective and balance that you need to grow and thrive. Together, we can explore who you are as a person, as a partner, and as a parent.

While experiences vary across women and cultures, there are many challenges women face that are remarkably similar. For many, there are waves of powerful emotions, a strong identity shift, loneliness, and overwhelming anxiety. If these things are getting in the way of you caring for your baby, yourself, work or relationships, a higher level of support may benefit you.

EMDR Therapy

Trauma can have a lasting negative impact on the way you see the world and relate to other people. It can take an immense amount of energy to continue functioning while you are experiencing difficult emotions. Memories can become “frozen in time,” and remembering a trauma may feel as difficult as going through it the first time.

EMDR therapy has demonstrated success in helping individuals heal from emotional distress and negative beliefs due to unprocessed or unresolved traumatic memories. This type of therapy helps you to link positive information in the present to older neural networks which hold these unprocessed memories.

EMDR allows a natural movement toward healing by stimulating your brain’s own healing abilities through the use of bilateral stimulation, often with eye movements (a light bar or by hand), sounds or self-tapping. This strategy allows you to feel grounded and safe in the present while accessing memories from your past.
